Advancing Women's employment in the Agri-food sector through Re-skilling and Empowerment
In General
The AWARE project aims to reduce long-term unemployment (LTU) among disadvantaged women (primarily migrants, victims of gender-based violence, mothers in rural areas) by upscaling the Rural Social Innovation (RSI) model retrieved from the successful experience of the InnovAgroWoMed project and enriching it with a tailored gender-sensitive approach.
More Information
Based on the collaboration of an international partnership including employment actors, vocational education and training (VET), research, public and non-profit entities, AWARE aims to foster sustainable and fair employment conditions for women, and their social inclusion via community collaboration. Through personalised educational and employment paths, vulnerable women will benefit from re-skilling and career advancement opportunities, reducing the uncertainties linked with their return to the labour market, while gaining knowledge on support systems available. By creating a customised path for women and expanding the renovated InnovAgroWoMed model to new geographic areas, inclusive social innovation and knowledge about labour market barriers and skills needs will be enhanced in several European countries. Finally, agri-food enterprises will be encouraged to apply gender-sensitive policies and foster supportive workplaces.
AWARE addresses the gender employment gap and long-term unemployment faced by vulnerable women by tackling systemic barriers through personalised learning and employment paths, continuous upskilling and inclusive practices for safer working environments in the agri-food sector. More specifically, different key methodologies will be used:
- Co-created and participatory: the target group will be actively involved in the different phases of project’s implementation, starting from the initial community mapping, enhancing the sense of agency of local communities, as well as the organisation of multi-actor roundtables for the co-design of a gender-sensitive framework, which will guarantee the efficacy of the developed resources, further validated by the Expert Consulting Bodies;
- User-centred: the gender-sensitive approach will emphasise rapport-building and trust while addressing the specific barriers faced by the target group to access the labour market. Its combination with the RSI model will foster connections between organisations and with communities, while promoting economic, social, and environmental sustainability, and local development.
