BOOST-IN

HORIZON-CL6-2023-CIRCBIO-01
Grant agreement no. 101135239
Boosting the uptake of inovative solutions in the context of water and circular economy

In General

BOOST-IN is an EU-funded initiative focused on advancing the water sector towards a circular economy. The project aims to foster technological innovation, update governance models, and inspire shifts in organizational structures and mindsets. By promoting a more sustainable approach, BOOST-IN encourages viewing water not merely as a resource to consume and dispose of, but as a valuable asset that can be reused, recycled, and leveraged in diverse applications—from energy generation to agriculture.

More Information

The BOOST-IN project aims to drive a transformative approach in the water sector, fostering the technological advancements, governance frameworks, mindset shifts, and organizational changes needed for a circular economy. This will be achieved by effectively transferring innovative Water Circular Economy Solutions (WACES) and implementing initiatives to enhance water cycle closure, water reuse, and the recovery of energy, nutrients, and other by-products from wastewater, all grounded in real-world circular economy applications. This approach calls for coordinated, multidisciplinary efforts across the EU, with a strong regional focus on designated Regions of Opportunity (ROp). By targeting these regions, the project seeks to encourage knowledge sharing, build capacity, support entrepreneurship, influence policy, and create a dynamic network of stakeholders working together for maximum impact and synergy.

BOOST-IN builds on recent R&D&I projects, innovative products, and business models within the water sector and circular economy (CE) framework. Leveraging this foundation, BOOST-IN will conduct a thorough scouting process to identify promising Water Circular Economy Solutions (WACES) and examine barriers to their adoption and impact. Through this process, the project will distill key insights and lessons learned from previous CE implementations, transforming them into actionable knowledge to support both ongoing and future projects. This effort aims to drive change and enhance uptake of CE practices across six selected “Regions of Opportunity” (ROp) and at national and EU levels. The analysis will encompass policy and regulatory landscapes, business models, and market adoption dynamics.

BOOST-IN operates in six regions of opportunity: Germany, Bulgaria, Italy, Greece, France and Spain. These regions were chosen for their strong potential to replicate Water Circular Economy Solutions (WACES) effectively, with the overarching goal of addressing implementation barriers in ways tailored to each region’s unique context. This will allow stakeholders to prioritize and focus their efforts on solutions that have the highest potential and viability, thereby maximizing the project's impact. Collaboration between industry stakeholders will address chronic problems in water resource management and strengthen the water circular economy.

AGENSO Contribution

AGENSO will coordinate the collection of innovative technologies and circular water economy solutions, their integration into Water Europe's Market Place platform, and will develop an innovative online tool for B2B matchmaking to select the best circular economy solutions for each case based on the user's needs. Finally, AGENSO will lead the data management.
