As part of the HYDROUSA project, AGENSO deployed an integrated smart water management solution at one of the project's pilot sites on the island of Mykonos, aiming to maximise the use of harvested rainwater for irrigation purposes.
Prior to the installation of the monitoring systems, a 280 m² underground rainwater harvesting collector was constructed to capture stormwater runoff. The collected rainwater is conveyed to two storage tanks, where AGENSO's AGIoT-8070 systems have been installed to continuously monitor both the quantity and quality of the stored water.
The harvested rainwater is used to irrigate an oregano cultivation, which is intended for the production of high-quality oregano essential oil. Irrigation is managed through AGENSO's AGIoT-1560 smart irrigation system, which uses a soil moisture sensor to continuously monitor soil water content. Based on these measurements, together with the crop's irrigation requirements, the system calculates the optimal irrigation dose and applies it automatically, ensuring efficient and sustainable use of the available water resources.
To further optimise the operation of the irrigation system, an AGIoT-0087 weather station has also been installed. The station records key meteorological parameters, which are integrated into the irrigation algorithms, enabling irrigation decisions to account for current weather conditions and thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of water management.
