As part of the CIRC4Food project, circular economy systems were successfully installed in 30 households and 3 schools, aiming to promote sustainable stormwater management and the valorisation of organic waste.
Rainwater is collected from the rooftops of buildings and stored in water tanks, where AGENSO's AGIoT-8070 smart monitoring systems have been installed to continuously measure both the quantity and quality of the stored water. The collected rainwater is then used for the automatic irrigation of urban gardens through AGENSO's AGIoT-1560 smart irrigation systems. The integrated soil moisture sensor continuously measures the moisture content of the soil and, based on both the measured soil moisture and the water requirements of the plants, automatically adjusts the irrigation schedule and the amount of water applied. This ensures the efficient use of available water resources while significantly reducing the consumption of potable water.
At the same time, leaves and other organic materials collected together with the rainwater are transferred to composting units equipped with AGENSO's AGIoT-6075 environmental monitoring systems. These systems continuously monitor key environmental parameters, specifically temperature and humidity, throughout the composting process. By ensuring optimal composting conditions, they support the production of high-quality compost and further promote the principles of the circular economy through the effective reuse of organic waste.
